The Community

Shoal Creek is absolutely unique among communities of its type, certainly within greater Birmingham. No other golf community in this area affords as broad an array of amenities, set among unparalleled beauty, spaciousness, privacy and protection.

Both a private club and a private residential community, Shoal Creek was conceived by Hall Thompson and developed by Thompson Realty Company. The goal was to create a world-class golf course, and to surround it with a beautiful, peaceful and secure residential community.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed course and Williamsburg-styled clubhouse and grounds opened in November 1977, and the first homes were built and occupied shortly thereafter. Since then, the neighborhood has evolved, and amenities have been added: swimming pool, tennis courts, guest cottages, fishing lakes, town meeting hall, a par three golf course, executive office space and an equestrian center. And of course, abundant natural common space invites those who wish to walk, jog, hike, bike or otherwise enjoy nature.

Over the years, Shoal Creek (Club) has received wide acclaim and high rank within the golfing world, and has hosted two PGA Championships and one US Amateur tournament.

Today, the club and residential community coexist in cooperation; yet, each is a separate entity. Club membership carries no burden of property ownership; and conversely, residents may, but need not be, club members.

By any standard, Shoal Creek offers residents spacious living. From a community-wide total of approximately 250 home-sites, Thompson Realty maintains an ample inventory and a wide variety of lots for sale: course-side, waterfront, mountain and meadow. Lots range from approximately one-half to five acres in size and are priced from the low $100,000s to the mid $600,000s. Larger acreage is available as well.

At any given time, there may also be a few homes for sale at Shoal Creek, both existing and new. Homes are constructed in a variety of sizes and styles; yet they share a common sense of place. Each home has been designed and constructed under the guidance of the Shoal Creek Architectural Committee, to ensure that it complements both its immediate surroundings, as well as that of the greater community.

Shoal Creek has rewarded many over the years as a near perfect place to work, play and live. It's so enjoyable here; even the deer and turkey have remained.
